Your Mothering Experience Matters
We’re very exited that the NAMC been chosen to participate in two important research studies: #1: Association for Research on Mothering (ARM) Andrea O’Reilly PhD founder and director of the Association for Research on Mothering (ARM), a leading research centre on Motherhood at York University in Toronto, Canada is conducting a research project to analyze and assess the philosophy and practices of the Mothers Centers 15 countries including those under the umbrella of the National Association for Mothers Centers in the U.S. The purpose of the project is to inform the development of empowerment programming for young mothers from the study of existing mothers groups. This research will be conducted via telephone conversations with center members and, in some cases, face to face conversations with several members of the center. To learn more about this research contact Lisa Kaplan-Miller at the NAMC office at (516) 939-6667 x106. #2 Rutgers University Jocelyn Crowley, PhD Associate Professor of Public Policy at Rutgers University in NJ is coordinating a study on mothers’ groups in the United States to shed light on the value of mothers’ groups in a way that will be useful to policy makers and scholars. Five groups with multi-state membership lists will be included in this study: MOMS Clubs, Mocha Moms, the National Association of Mothers’ Centers, Mothers and More, and Moms Rising. This research will be conducted via a random sample survey of 2500 members across these five, nationwide mothers’ groups (500 per organization). There will also be site visits to some groups for the purpose of interviewing between 20-30 members per organization.
