The NAMC's Mother/Daughter Leadership Program began as a weekend retreat for mothers and their 11-13 year old daughters. The goals of the program were:

to help the girls achieve more positive self-images
to allow the girls to move from a passive to a more active role in their own lives
to build a healthier relationship and improve communication between mother & daughter.

Support for this program was provided by the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls and the Campaign for Human Development of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY. Continued funding from the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls has allowed the NAMC to re-design the program so that local Mothers' Centers will be able to offer Mother/Daughter programming in their communities.
